Certification requirements

The organic certification is guaranteed to products that fulfill the requirements stated in East Africa Organic Products Standards EAS 456:2007. These standards were developed basing on the following:
  • The Codex Alimentarius Guidelines for Organic Production, CAC/GL 32 
  • The IFOAM Basic Standards 
  • The already existing private sector and public standards in East Africa 
  • Intensive consultations in the East African countries
Once the operator has applied for certification, he will be asked to elaborate detailed measures to ensure compliance with the requirements stated in the above mentioned standards. List of documents required by the operator prior to organic certification The following documents and records are normally required by operators for the different parts of the production.
