Industry inspection

Legal backing
Quality inspection of industries in Rwanda was operational in March 2002 after the establishment of the Law no. 03/2002 of 19/01/2002 creating a National Bureau of Standards was in place. This is specified in Article 4 line 4 of the above mentioned law as a means of achieving the objectives the Bureau.


Why industry inspection

  • To implement Rwanda Standards for realization of Quality Products
  • To introduce and promote Quality management Systems in Industry
  • To promote trade
  • To protect the consumers.

Procedures for industry inspection

  • RBS inspectors visit the industry without any prior notice
  • Inspection is done on control of raw materials, production line and products
  • Samples are taken and submitted to the RBS testing labs or any other recognized labs for analysis
  • Appropriate advice is given on non conformities for corrective action
  • Products that don’t conform to the standards requirements despite continued controls and advice on corrective action are not allowed on the market

Complaint handling

  • Complaints are registered in a complaint handling register
  • Complaint handling is done proportionate to the nature and magnitude of the complaint
