PURPOSE OF MICROBIOLOGY SECTION
  • To facilitate promotion and encouraging the development of hygienically healthy food industry
  • To facilitate a supply of safe food and animal feeds complying with the standard requirements
  • To facilitate protection of consumer from contaminated, decomposed, or injurious foods.
SCOPE OF MICROBIOLOGY LABORATORY

Microbiology Laboratory detects, identifies and enumerates live invisible microorganisms that always spoil foods or animal feeds and/ or are pathogenic to human beings or animals in foods or non- food materials.

The range of tests that are currently done in various products include:
  1. Total viable counts/ total aerobic counts
  2. Total coliforms
  3. Faecal coliform counts
  4. Escherichia coli
  5. Salmonella spp
  6. Staphylococcus aureus
  7. Streptococcus faecalis
  8. Sulphite reducing organisms
  9. Sulphite reducing spores
  10.  Pseudomonas aeroginosa
  11. Yeasts
  12. Moulds
