Standards Development Process
Any standard is a collective work. Technical Committees of manufacturers, users, research organizations, government departments and consumers work together to set up standards that meet the needs of consumers and stakeholders. RBS Standards' officers act as secretaries to these committees.
The mentioned committees meet to discuss debate and argue until they reach consensus on a draft standard. If a consensus is not reach on certain issues, the parties with divergent views may appeal to the RBS management to resolve the issues.
There are specific procedures for drafting standards that must be adhered to. These are designed to ensure that standards meet their aim of providing, for common and repeated use, guidelines or characteristics for products.
