Testing Laboratory Unit
The RBS Testing Laboratory Unit (TLU) offers chemical, microbiological and physical tests. Our staff consists of a highly qualified team of experienced chemists and microbiologists who apply advanced techniques in meeting clients’ needs. They perform a wide range of tests on crops, grains, raw meat, milk beverages, water, processed foods and bulk foods daily, cosmetics and petroleum products.
It plays a very big role in facilitation of competitive and fair trade. It also plays a big role in protection of consumers.
The Testing Laboratory Unit is divided into three laboratory sections:
Microbiology Section; Food, Agriculture and Mycotoxins Section and the Chemistry Section, The three sections are supported by the Sample Control center and the Laboratory stores.
The Food, Agriculture and Mycotoxins Section is made up of two Laboratories: the Food and Agriculture; and the Mycotoxins Laboratory, the Chemistry Section constitutes the Inorganic organic and petroleum Laboratories.
TLU ANALYSIS PROCESS STEPS
1. A customer submits the request for testing to the Sample Control Officer (SCO).
2. The SCO finds out if the sample is covered by the TLU testing scope and verifies the suitability of thesample for testing.
3. For sample covered by the TLU scope and suitable for testing, the SCO communicates to the Finance unit to prepare an invoice for the customer. (Exception is applied for the samples submitted by RBS inspectors).
4. For samples not covered by TLU scope, the SCO communicates to the LD to prepare for sub contacting and invoicing thereof.
5. Thereafter, the customer takes the invoice to Rwanda Revenue Authority (RRA) and pays the testing charges.
6. The customer submits the sample to the SCO with the proof of payment.
7. The SCO and the customer enter into contract for TLU to analyze the sample by filling and signing the sample submission form. (For subcontracted samples, the LD and the customer sign sample sub contraction form).
8. Thereafter the SCO submits the sample to the respective Head of Section in the Laboratory for analysis. (For sub contracted samples the LD coordinates the transfer of the sample to the analyzing Laboratory)
9. After analysis and reporting, the Head of section submits the test report to the LD for final verification, signing and stamp. ((For sub contracted samples, the LD receives the test report from the analyzing Laboratory).
10. The LD submits the test report to the SCO ready for dispatch.
11. The SCO informs the customer about the availability of the test report within 30 minutes.
12. The customers receives the test report and signs in the test report register. (In case of any complaint, comments the customer communicates to the SCO verbally or by feedback form and the necessary steps can be taken).
